Artist Statement: Light and sound have a couple common characteristics. One characteristic being that they can both be measured in wave lengths. And one of the main characteristics is the effect they have on our senses. Not only as a whole, but what I think is the most interesting part of it, is how it affects people individually.
Intonation, generally referring to sound pitch or inflection in someone’s voice, I felt could be translated into an altogether different stimulus to our senses. Our sight. And looking at these pieces, I am hoping that an individual will think about how each grouping of images and colors makes them feel or which one they are more drawn to.
I want these pieces to evoke the senses. I do not want them to just be seen. I want them to also be imagined as a sound, smell or a taste. I want one piece to be more comfortable to look at than another or more pleasing to your senses. I created each piece with the idea in mind that each one projected its own unique intonation, and formed some sort of parallel wave between sight and sound.
